Saucy Swiss Chard with Chickpeas

  1. 2 bunches swiss chard, washed and chopped into 2-inch items
  2. 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  3. 1 vidalia onion, sliced
  4. 2 garlic cloves, minced
  5. 1/4 tsp chili flakes
  6. 1 19 ouncescan chickpeas
  7. 1 14ouncescan diced tomatoes
  8. 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  9. 1/2 cup water
  10. 1/2 cup basil


  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  2. Add the swiss chard and blanch for 3 minutes. Drain
  3. Meanwhile, in a large saute pan, heat the olive oil and saute the onion, garlic and chili flakes.
  4. Add the blanched chard to the pan and toss.
  5. Add the chickpeas, diced tomatoes, water, salt and basil. Bring to a simmer and allow to prepare dinner for 15 minutes.
  6. Enjoy on its own, as a aspect dish or as a sauce with your favorite pasta.
