Bagels with Seeds
Do you’re keen on an every thing bagel like I do? Well these Pumpkin and Hemp Seed Bagels truly embrace a great deal of healthy seeds in a special kind of approach. The seeds are inside the bagel, fairly than as coating. Of course, I do love some textured toppings on my bagels so I’ve choices for that.
Bagel Seed Toppings That Work
Some seeds and nuts burn very easily. So as an alternative of placing these gadgets on prime of bagels, you’ll be able to fold them into the dough! But in case you love a coating on a bagel (like me!) listed here are a couple of options that work nicely:
- poppy seeds
- white sesame seeds
- coarse sea salt
- dried garlic bits and even garlic granules
- rolled oats! (I tried that on my first batch of these bagels and appreciated it!)
I find that the freshly boiled bagels may be coating in seedy toppings very easily. But if most popular, you’ll be able to brush a vegan egg substitute like JUST egg over prime before coating and the baking.
My Fave Seed Brands
I undoubtedly buy the identical seed manufacturers over and over. These are the two I used for these bagels and all my hemp and pumpkin seed wants…
- Go Raw Sprouted Pumpkin Seeds – I really like these! They are crunchy as an alternative of rubbery and have a delicate salted taste that I am keen on. I really like them on prime of smoothie bowls too.
- Organic Hemp Seeds – I am less brand-loyal for hemp seeds. I simply make it possible for they’re organic. I like Manitoba Harvest and Nutiva, simply to call a number of. But the Whole Foods brand can also be great!
It isn’t straightforward to load up bagels with protein and still make them scrumptious and well-textured. But I feel these Pumpkin and Hemp Seed Bagels do a reasonably good job because of all the seedy goodness in every chew. They include round 10-12g of protein in every medium-sized bagel, which is sweet! Larger bagels will include around 15g.
Another protein adder is the type of flour you employ. Bread flour accommodates more gluten – and thus more protein – than all-purpose flour. Learn extra about this on Bon Appetit.
If you want an added increase of protein, experiment with subbing out 1/4 cup of bread flour for 1/4 cup of plain vegan protein powder – and even very important wheat gluten. The texture will differ a bit, but you’ll get a heavier increase of protein.
Or you might merely add extra hemp or pumpkin seeds – two wonderful types of healthy fat, fiber and plant-based protein.

How to Serve Pumpkin + Hemp Seed Bagels?
I really like these bagels 4 methods….
1 – Avocado toast bagels! Easy. Avocado, lemon, some EVOO, salt and perhaps more seeds on prime.
2 – Bagels with vegan cream cheese. I really like Kite Hill the perfect.
3 – Bagel breakfast sandwiches. Vegan sausage and/or vegan egg, vegan cheese, strawberry jam, some greens. That is the go-to recipe in our house.
4 – Bagel lunch sandwich. Think hummus, sprouts or lettuce, perhaps freshly sliced tomato, roasted purple peppers and another veggies you need to pile on. This works with spicy mustard and vegan cheese too instead of hummus.
