At 32 weeks pregnant, I used to be lucky enough to squeeze in a visit to El Matador State Beach in Malibu and do my Maternity Photoshoot. With this very irregular pregnancy journey, I can’t inform you how grateful I am that this happened….
Maternity Photos: Check!
Grocery supply. At-home orders. Masks. Hand sanitizer. Scary headlines. Canceled baby showers. Doctors appointments gone solo. Mandatory pre-labor COVID checks. Ack! It’s enough to make a pregnant woman lose her glow. Well, virtually. Sometimes you need to battle in your completely happy and do one little thing for YOU. If potential. And it’s all the time potential.
For me, I needed to do no less than one normal pregnancy factor. This was it.
Honestly, I burdened and debated doing maternity pictures SO MUCH given all things COVID. So I requested my OB for recommendation and researched the situation.
My OB gave me a thumbs up and that took plenty of nervousness away. Plus, I knew I might rely on my photographer pal Caroline White to keep me protected, journey far to a extra isolated location, change plans final minute if want be and velocity by means of photographs in a flash.
Photoshoot at El Matador
Why this spot? Well the smooth sand and lovely rock formation backgrounds are a photographer’s paradise. And the extra secluded seashore meant we might keep away from heavy crowds like in Santa Monica.
My husband and I met up with Caroline at 7pm, for sundown, aka magic hour. I needed that golden sundown lighting because Caroline is so great at that. She captures glow like a light-weight-snagging wizard!
I had never been to El Matador earlier than, however it’s true: you can see professional photographers doing wedding ceremony, engagement and maternity photoshoots on any given day. (There have been at the least two other pro shoots I spotted while there, and just some straggling seashore-goers. Perfect.)
Oh, and it’s an Instagram spot too.
Make it Work…
I knew going into this Maternity Photoshoot that it will not be a traditional, chill, relaxed, “perfect” photoshoot. But I needed to just dive in and make it work…
I did my own hair and make-up given social distancing. Which was extra exhausting than expected! I feel I spent a superb half hour simply curling my hair and of course my curls wilted about 5 minutes into the shoot. Hello ocean breeze. I often wish to have a recent reduce and colour for an enormous shoot, however that wasn’t occurring either. Pandemic hair it was! All a part of capturing this reality. I mean…
Caroline White Photography
I am keen on Caroline. She is like this comfortable, gifted ray of sunshine that will get in, snags her photographs and makes magic. I first labored together with her seven years ago here in LA for some branding photographs. You can find a couple of of them in my cookbook HHVK!
But significantly, Caroline is such a PRO (masked + socially distanced PRO!) we sped via photographs and soon enough my mask was back on and I was wiping make-up off my face through the automotive journey house.
Ps. Check out her website and Instagram. Caroline also sells a number of of her prints, they are past pretty to take a look at. I really like the elephant print!
Little BTS shot by my husband…
I Did it!
These are unusual occasions guys, all of us have choice fatigue and pandemic exhaustion and we’re all just making an attempt to stay completely satisfied and protected and healthy. And this maternity photoshoot glad an enormous part of my coronary heart.
I get to share these pictures with my daughter sometime! How superb is that???
Maternity Photoshoot Styling
My gown is Anthropologie. I liked the flowy chiffon texture for the breezy air. My hair and make-up: this totally fabulous stylist Kathy Patalsky. I mean… LOL.
