Saucy Swiss Chard with Chickpeas

Ingredients
  1. 2 bunches swiss chard, washed and chopped into 2-inch items
  2. 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  3. 1 vidalia onion, sliced
  4. 2 garlic cloves, minced
  5. 1/4 tsp chili flakes
  6. 1 19 oz can chickpeas
  7. 1 14oz can diced tomatoes
  8. 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  9. 1/2 cup water
  10. 1/2 cup basil
Instructions
  1. Bring a big pot of salted water to a boil.
  2. Add the swiss chard and blanch for 3 minutes. Drain
  3. Meanwhile, in a big saute pan, warmth the olive oil and saute the onion, garlic and chili flakes.
  4. Add the blanched chard to the pan and toss.
  5. Add the chickpeas, diced tomatoes, water, salt and basil. Bring to a simmer and permit to cook dinner for quarter-hour.
  6. Enjoy by itself, as a facet dish or as a sauce with your favorite pasta.
